What is Gifts in Kind (GiK)?
WJR's Gifts in Kind programme ships humanitarian aid from the UK to impoverished communities in need making a direct and immediate difference to thousands of individual lives. We have shipped over £17m worth of aid over the past five years, providing a vital lifeline for so many. The generosity of many UK companies has made this possible.
Why?
Families are living well below the poverty line, and struggle to make their incomes stretch. This direct aid has a huge impact on their lives. Through the distribution of this aid, WJR is able to reach much further than funding alone will allow. Thousands are provided with the basic living essentials - clothing, blankets, medicines, toiletries, dried foods etc - enabling them to make better choices of where their meagre incomes should be spent. Providing something as simple as a warm coat or a blanket can literally mean the difference between life and death. Equally important, this aid helps provide people's basic needs, gives them back their dignity and tangibly changes their perceptions of themselves.

Who Does it Help and How?
On arrival, the distribution of aid is prioritised to those in the greatest social need - children and the elderly. It is distributed under strict supervision by qualified social and community workers on the ground.
Where is it Distributed?
The GiK programme is focused in Eastern Europe and FSU. Currently shipments are despatched to: Belarus; Bulgaria; Hungary; Moldova; Romania; Serbia; Ukraine, and wherever the need is greatest.
